Violet's is named after Sister Violet Grace Jenkins, who owned Strathesk House during the 1930's.She lived in the entire lower floor, which by all accounts...was decorated in a sumptuous Turkish manner. Prior to acquiring Strathesk House, she was Matron at Struan Private Hospital, now the "Old Court House", situated in Cameron St opposite the Queen Victoria and Art Gallery.

The rest of the house she had divided into three flats. One of the long-term tenants, a Mr Stubbs, become the beneficiary of her estate for his lifetime.

Matron Jenkins was widely traveled and had been a nurse in Europe in World War 1.

In addition to our other apartments, Violet's offers a sumptuous 3-corner spa set in a European bathroom, a dishwasher, and a particularly lovely view in a private garden setting. As well, there is a private little putting green for those who need a little golfing top-up.

Violet's was opened in January 1999. At that time, it was awarded a five-star (RACT) rating as a holiday apartment - the first of this standard in Launceston and surrounding regions. Read more....
